A City Civil Court through its order has suspended the release of the film ‘Kantha’ in a case of money transaction between the producer and a financier.
The film is produced by Palanivel and his wife Kalpana under the banner V P Films and was scheduled for release during this month.
Petitioner Mohan Kumar, the financier had lent Rs. 25 lakh to assist the producer in the production of the film with a promise that the money should be paid withing the stipulated time mentioned in the agreement. But, the producers did not pay the amount in cash instead they produced two cheque leaves to the financier that bounced at the bank for lack of funds in the account.
As the Mohan Kumar could not get the amount from the producers he approached the court to stop the film release till the producers pay him the amount.
Considering the validity of the contention of the petitioner the Judge of the City Civil Court ordered the suspension of the film from its release and posted the case to March 19 for enquiries.
Film ‘Kantha’ features Karan and Mithra Kurien play the lead and Rajesh plays an important character. Babu Vishwanath has directed the film.
