Totally unaware of the climax in Paruthiveeran: Priyamani

Basking in the glory of Paruthiveeran, which won her a National Award for her portrayal of village girl Muththazhagu, admits she was kept totally in the dark about the climax by director Ameer Sultan.

“The climax of the film, where I ask Karthi to chop me into pieces as I am already dying, was not revealed to anybody up until we shot the scene. Ameer made it a point that even the cameraman and his assistant were kept in the dark about the climax. It took us a good ten to fifteen days to finish shooting the climax,” Priyamani reveals.

She confesses that it was this element of surprise maintained by the director that allowed to give an unihibited performance throughout the film.

The Paruthiveeran actress also recalls it was director Bharathiraja who she first called after winning the National Award.

“The first call I made after winning my first National Award was to Bharathiraja sir, who gave me my first break in Kollywood with Kangalal Kaidhu Sei. Even more heartening was the response I got from Balu Mahendra sir, who said his daughter had made him proud,” she gushes.

The actress will next be seen in Charulatha, a bi-lingual release in Tamil and Kannada, where she plays the role of conjoined twins.
