Naiyaandi in controversy again, illegal copy of Malayalam movie

Mollywood producer Mani C Kappan has filed a court case against the makers of the Tamil movie starring Dhanush and Nazriya Nazim in the lead. Right from the start, Naiyaandi was in the news for all the wrong reasons. After the body double controversy involving actress Nazriya Nazim, the makers have now been accused of plagiarism. Mollywood producer Mani C Kappan has filed a complaint against the makers for copyright violation, and the court has issued a temporary stay order on the screening and distribution of video rights of the movie.

Mani C Kappan, in his complaint, has reportedly stated that Naiyaandi is a copy of the hit Malayalam movie, Meleparambil Aanveedu, produced by him, and that the story and scenes have been copied without his consent. Hence the screening and video rights should be restrained immediately, he has stated.

“Anyone who has watched the Tamil movie would have noticed that its plot is adopted from Meleparambil Aanveedu. More than 12 scenes have been copied from the original film. In fact, the filmmaker has not just copied the scenes, but even the dialogues,” he says and further adds that the Kollywood director had even stated in his interviews that his film is inspired by the Malayalam movie.

The producer says that he has plans to make a Hindi remake of Meleparambil Aanveedu, and even had a discussion with director Siddique to helm the project. The original film starring Jayaram and Shobhana was directed by Rajasenan in 1993. In spite of repeated attempts to contact Sarkunam, the director of Naiyaandi, he remained unavailable for comment.
