Film: Manja Pai
Starring: Vimal,Lakshmi Menon,Rajkiran
Director: Naveen Raghavan

Rating::2.75/5

Story:

Manjapai is the story of a Grandpa Venkatasamy [Raj Kiran] who comes to Chennai to stay along with his beloved Grandson Tamil [Vimal], an IT Professional living in a posh apartment in the city. Being an old man from village, Venkatasamy's behavior is quite different towards neighbors. This causes huge embarrassment to Tamil and slowly he tries to change Venkatsamy's dressing style and way of behavior. As days passes, people understands Venkatsamy's honesty and bigheartedness. In the mean time, there is a small love track between Tamil and Karthika Menon [Lakshmi Menon], an Ophthalmologist. Watch Manjapai for the performances...

Performance:

Vimal has done his parts well, but couldn't live the role as a lovable grand child.

Raj Kiran is the heart and soul of Manja Pai. It is the Venkatasamy all over the film and his witty act in the role brought the house down, leaving audiences in tears at places.

Lakshmi Menon is a big lay down to the film. She is just not apt for the characterization, as a City girl. Pratap Pothen is fun to watch on-screen.

Technical Analysis:

Debutante director Naveen Raghavan has come up with a descent subject. Manjapai's biggest strength is emotional scenes, but Naveen failed in writing an engaging screenplay and gripping narration.

NR Raghunanthan's songs are okay, so as the background score that is beautifully executed at parts. Masani's cinematography is good. Especially, 'Ayyo Ayyo – Thatha' song is visually excellent. Deva's editing is acceptable.

Analysis:

Manja Pai means a yellow bag that was been in use some years ago when people are unaware of Plastic covers. Director seems to have planned to show the importance of understanding persons and mutual relations, which he feels lagging in cities today.

The movie lacks continuity and pace in the initial hour and the audiences couldn't connect with the lead pair. It is after the Raj Kiran's entrance viewers travel along with him. His character plays the main role and Vimal has supported him well.

Final Verdict: Emotional – Laugh Riot; lags perfection in Execution...
