April 29 will remain an unforgettable day for fans of the Superstar. For, it was on this very day last year that Rajinikanth kickstarted his film, Rana, with a lot of fanfare, only to be admitted in a city hospital later that evening. It’s been a year since those unnerving times for the family and fans but this one year has seen a lot of new movie announcements. So where do his films stand today?

Rana – April 29, 2011
On the morning of April 29, 2011, Deepika Padukone was at AVM Studios for the launch and shoot of a song for Rana. K S Ravikumar, the director of the film, and many other celebrities from the film industry had gathered too. Superstar Rajinikanth gave his first shot under the guidance of his mentor and director K Balachander. That evening, Rajinikanth was admitted to a city hospital. Rana was put on hold.

Most of the cast and crew of Kochadaiyaan head to London for an important schedule on March 17. On March 30, Rajini spoke to the press about the film and how it was tough but the sequences had turned out well. The same day, his elder daughter, Aishwaryaa’s film 3 released in Chennai. Rumours of a supposed feud between his two daughters also broke out.

The status of Soundarya’s dream project Sultan (then rechristened Hara), of which we saw a glimpse in trailers in 2008, is still unclear. Will Sultan see the light of day? Are scenes/songs from the film going to be used in the current Rajini film? And is Kochadaiyaan actually a prequel to Rana or is it the same subject in a different name and format? The questions are many but what’s unquestionable is the charm and popularity of the Superstar and his diehard fan following across the world. Here’s looking forward to him on-screen soon!

Daughter Soundarya suddenly announces that her appa’s next film will be titled Kochadaiyaan and will be filmed using performance-capture technology. It’s also announced that Rana had not been shelved but would be done after the completion Kochadaiyaan.
