When Ekta Kapoor’s movie The Dirty Picture, starring Vidya Balan, set the cash register ringing, it saw producers announcing its remake in other languages.
First it was a Tamil version of the movie starring Veena Malik followed by the Bengali version featuring Rakhi Sawant in the lead role. But as soon as this news reached Kapoor, she decided to take action and sent a legal notice to the two producers.
Confirms Tanuj Garg, CEO, Balaji Motion Pictures, “Legal notices have been sent to those trying to pass off The Dirty Picture as their film by using a title that we own and by piggy-backing on its value.” Both Rakhi and Veena feigned ignorance on the issue.
While Rakhi said, “Is it? I have no idea about this notice. It is really bad if the news is true,” Veena Malik said, “This is between two producers and I have not been informed about this.” We sent a text message to producer Shatabdi Roy, producer of the Bengali version, but he didn’t get back.
