Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, as renowned for his intense performances as his deep baritone turns an year older today. The actor, who at the age of 69 still appears in lead roles, is also about to be a proud grandfather soon.
Born to the famous Hindi poet Harivanshrai Bachchan, a young Amitabh Bachchan gave up his job in a shipping company in Kolkata to try his hand at acting. The then lanky youngster landed his first role in Saat Hindustani where he won the award of 'Best Newcomer'.
Amitabh Bachchan, however gained immense popularity during the 70s as the 'Angry Young Man' of Bollywood for his intense roles he played in various blockbusters like Deewaar, Zanjeer, Kala Patthar and Trishul. Bachchan also tried his hand at comedy with Chupke Chupke and Amar Akbar Anthony, which were much appreciated. Bachchan also tried his hand at politics but returned to acting after a brief but unsuccessful stint.
The 'Big B', as he is known in the industry has been termed as a 'one man industry' by critically acclaimed director Francois Truffaut and still continues to one of the most beloved actors of the Hindi film industry not only for his acting skills and persona but also because of his humble and warm personality.
