Despite Vanakkam Chennai being given a clean chit by the Censor Board by certifying it with a U, the state government has declined to exempt the film from paying the 30 percent entertainment tax.
The film’s producer, Udhayanidhi Stalin, has alleged that even one official who had signed in favour of the tax exemption was transferred. Not wanting to settle down without a fight, Udhayanidhi has filed a suit at the court in Chennai seeking justice. It may be mentioned here that Vanakkam Chennai marks the debut of Udhayanidhi’s wife Kiruthiga as the director. The movie released yesterday and it has received good reports.
